Southington PD Cracks Down On Handicap Parking Violations

The crackdown is ongoing and will continue until Sunday, June 15, with violators of handicap parking laws targeted.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — Local police kicked off a campaign on Friday, June 6, to crack down on folks illegally parking in handicapped parking spaces.

The Southington Police Department said it has partnered with Peace Love ACCESSibility, a North Branford nonprofit advocating for those with physical disabilities.

"Collectively, we would like to increase awareness to parking requirements and access for those with disabilities," wrote the SPD on Monday.

Starting on Friday, June 6, and ending on Sunday, June 15, the SPD will be conducting compliance checks of vehicles located in accessible parking areas and lanes.

"This effort is to ensure compliance with all state and town regulations," wrote the SPD.

"However, we would also like to emphasize education and community engagement regarding the importance of accessible parking."
