Southington Police Seeking Sponsors, Participants in Annual Golf Tournament

The annual golf tournament will be held at Hawks Landing on May 31.

The 9th Annual Timothy Foley Golf Tournament returns at the end of the month, but before the carts take off for the shotgun-style start, members of the Southington Police Department are seeking sponsors and participants to join in the fun.

The tournament this year will be held at Hawks Landing Country Club on May 31, with registration at 8 a.m. and the tournament kicking off at 9 a.m., according to a press release provided on the Southington Police Department Facebook page.

“This event has been a success in the past due to the support and generosity of Southington residents and businesses as well as other supporters of the Police Department,” Officer Steve Cifone said in the release. “We depend upon people like you to make this an enjoyable day as well as a successful fundraising event.”

“Our tournament is still reasonably priced at $130 per golfer. This includes eighteen holes of golf at the meticulously maintained Hawks Landing Country Club along with a cart, breakfast sandwiches, food on the course, lunch at the turn, a beverage cart and dinner immediately following the tournament,” he said.

The tournament is named in honor of Officer Timothy Foley, a member of the Southington Police Department who was killed in the line of duty in 1938.

But in order for the tournament, an annual fundraiser that helps provide funds for various efforts and initiatives, police said they need help from local businesses.

Those interested in Gift Sponsorship would need to provide a commitment no later than May 15 and those purchasing a greens flag to sponsor a hole should do so no later than May 20.
