Southington's PZC Tables Votes On Adult Housing Project

The matter might go before the PZC later in the month.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — Plans to build a new adult housing development in town are on hold, but just for a little bit.

The Southington Planning and Zoning Commission last week tabled three agenda items linked to Southington-based AA Denorfia Building & Development's plans to build an "active adult housing development."

In addition to a public hearing on the project, the PZC unanimously tabled two commission actions on the matter.

The developer is seeking both special permit and site plan approval for the project, which would be built at 570 Meriden Waterbury Turnpike. A public hearing was to precede those votes.

Southington PZC Chairman Robert Hammersley said the applicant needed more time to fine tune preparations with the town.

"Each of those items have a variety of commissions or departments that they're looking for input from," Hammersley said at the Oct. 4 PZC meeting.

He said those items might end up on the PZC agenda later this month at the Oct. 18 PZC meeting.

The Southington Planning and Zoning Commission Tuesday, Oct. 18, has a regular meeting scheduled for 7 p.m. in the public assembly room in the town's municipal center, 196 N. Main St.

According to project plans, the development would consist of 23 single-family units and require connection to sewers, water, utilities and storm drainage.

It would also be served by a private road, according to the proposal.

Property abutters have been notified of the potential development and they, along with the rest of the public, can testify before the town's top land-use board.
