Southington School to Hold Q&A With Experts Following Bee Infestation
The school, which closed its playground in spring after bees appeared, is holding the session for concerned parents.
Strong Elementary School will hold a question-and-answer session with two scientists for parents following a bee infestation that previously shut down the Southington school’s playground, Eyewitness News reports.
The play area was closed to students last spring after ground bees were discovered in the area, and parents are reportedly worried about sending their children back.
“I wish they had been a little more proactive and try to get this done for last year and not have the parents worry about it for this fall,” said David Malshesk, the father of a Strong student.

While there is no plan set in place to eliminate the bee infestation, experts Dr. Gale E. Ridge, Entomologist and Kimberly A. Stoner, Entomology from the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station will be available for parents’ questions. The session starts at 6 p.m.
Due to a lack of specimens, it remains unclear what kind of bee was infested in the playground area and has made it difficult for the school to clear the use of any sprays or pesticides. Eyewitness News reported seeing no bees in the area during a visit on Tuesday.
