Southington Teacher Nominated For Cruise Line Sweepstakes

If she wins Norwegian Cruise Line's "Giving Joy" contest, she'll spend a week aboard the Norwegian Prima cruise ship. Voting is now open.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — A Southington elementary school teacher has been nominated for a Norwegian Cruise Line contest, and if she wins, she'll get to take a trip aboard its newest ship.

In honor of Teacher Appreciation week, the cruise line will reward 100 teachers in the United States and Canada with a voyage aboard its Norwegian Prima ship through a "Giving Joy" sweepstakes.

The public can vote for the winners, and Southington resident Allison Gaudette is among the nominees.

Gaudette is a second-grade teacher at Strong Elementary School. She graduated from Southington High School in 2011, according to a post in the "SOUTHINGTON TALKS" Facebook group.

Gaudette's biography on the Giving Joy website calls her an amazing teacher and says she "keeps her students learning and having a great experience daily in her classroom."

"She goes above and beyond keeping the parents informed about the children and the progress of each individual student," her biography reads. "She includes all students in all activities. Her classroom is so welcoming, and everyone enjoys learning in the surroundings she has made."

If she wins the cruise, her trip would serve as a delayed honeymoon — she postponed her wedding due to COVID-19, then got married in December 2021 without missing a day of school, her bio says.

Currently, Gaudette has amassed 200 votes. Voting is open until June 3, and the top three grand prize winners will also be awarded with another seven-night cruise for two and a $25,000, $15,000 or $10,000 cash prize, respectively, for their schools.
