Summer Food Drive Aims To Stock Southington Shelves

Saturday's event at a local supermarket aims to stock food pantry shelves at a time of year where donations often wane.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — Three Southington agencies are teaming up to host a food drive on Saturday, June 14, to stock the shelves of local food pantries.

The trio of organizations is hosting its annual Summer Food Drive on Saturday, June 14, at the Southington Stop & Shop supermarket, located at 505 N. Main St.

There, folks are being invited to "step up against childhood hunger this summer."

While many food drives fill the shelves of pantries in the fall and winter during the holiday season, stocks traditionally wane a bit when the weather warms.

That's why non-perishable food will be colleced this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Stop & Shop.

Agenices coordinating the food drive are the Town of Southington Veterans Committee, Southington STEPS, and Southington Community Services.
