Target in Southington Home Invasion Faces Drug Charges

During the investigation of the invasion and shooting, Southington Police found a marijuana farm with 100+ plants in the basement.

The Southington man who was shot during a home invasion last month is now facing a variety of drug-related charges after police found more than 100 marijuana plants in the home.

During their investigation of the Jan. 4 incident at 735 Meriden Waterbury Tpke., Southington Police found 105 plants being grown the basement along with approximately 1.5 pounds of packaged marijuana and various pieces of marijuana growing equipment.

Daniel J. Morin, 43, told police that a trio of masked gunmen dressed in black forced their way into his home and that during a confrontation, one of the men shot him in the arm. Morin suffered a non life-threatening wound to an arm, police said at the time.

On Feb. 12, Morin was arrested on charges of Cultivation of Marijuana, Possession of Marijuana with intent to sell, Possession of Marijuana more than 4 ounces, Operating of a drug factory, Possession of Narcotics, Possession of a controlled substance and Possession of a Large capacity magazine.

Morin was released after posting a $50,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court Feb. 22.

Police said on Wednesday their investigation into the home invasion continues and it hasn’t been determined whether anything was taken.
