According to police, at about 8:35 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 2, the Southington Police Department received an LPR FLOCK alert for a stolen Hyundai Elantra that had entered town.

Patrol officers located this vehicle in the area of Flanders Street and North Main Street, and members of the SPD Detective Division took over surveillance of this vehicle as it traveled through town, police said.

Multiple officers safely coordinated efforts to deploy "Stop Sticks" without alerting the suspects, police said.

According to the SPD, these devices successfully deflated this vehicle’s tires, rendering the
vehicle inoperable.

Police said the vehicle pulled into the plaza located at 235 Queen St. and traveled behind the building at this location.

After coming to a stop, both the operator and passenger fled on foot, according to police.

Police said the driver of the vehicle was quickly taken into custody by officers in the area.

The passenger fled through the back fire entrance/exit of Noble Restaurant, through the restaurant, and then into Walmart, the SPD said.

"Officers continued to give chase, and the passenger was taken into custody after an officer successfully deployed their taser," wrote the SPD in a statement.

One suspect reported injury and was taken to Bradley Memorial Hospital in Southington for evaluation and later released, police said.

Both juveniles were transported to Southington Police Headquarters and processed.

Police said a flashlight, screwdriver, and items believed to have been taken from motor vehicle burglaries in the area were found.

Both were issued juvenile summons and released to their parents, police said.
