Ronda Guberman, assistant director, said the program has been held for several years. Although it was put on hold during the pandemic, it resumed this April. She said it has continued to go strong since picking back up.
“We have a nice turnout,” she said. “It’s a steady group that is growing. It’s a nice opportunity to get together with other veterans, share stories and enjoy a sense of camaraderie. The veterans really do enjoy coming.”
The Veterans Social Hour is conducted by Sherri Vogt, veterans’ liaison for Hartford HealthCare at Home.
“She has a wealth of knowledge about services and programs that veterans can apply for and that might benefit them,” Guberman said. “As a veteran herself, she has a passion for supporting and recognizing those who served in the military, as well as their spouses and families.”
Topics which Vogt may discuss include presumptive diseases, aid and attendance, service-connected disabilities, military burial and military honors and more.
“She can guide them through the programs, make phone calls on their behalf, or give them information to pursue themselves,” Guberman said.
Those who plan to attend are asked to call the Plainville Senior Center at 860-747-5728 to register. People can also register online at schedulesplus.com/plainville.
