Mask Mandate Lifted For Most South Windsor Buildings, Businesses

SOUTH WINDSOR, CT — Effective immediately, masks will no longer be required in a vast majority of South Windsor.

The town has lifted its mask mandate for all of its businesses and buildings — except South Windsor Public Schools, as they are under the direction of the State Department of Education, Town Manager Michael Maniscalco said.

However, all unvaccinated individuals will still be required to wear a face covering, Maniscalco said, and the school mandate will remain in effect until further notice.

The town's decision is consistent with guidance from the Capitol Region Council of Governments, Maniscalco said.

It was made due to "the steady decrease of COVID-19 cases within the Town of South Windsor" and in coordination with the Town of South Windsor Health Department, according to the town manager.

If the number of COVID-19 cases in South Windsor increases again, the town will look to Gov. Ned Lamont and the state of Connecticut for guidance and leadership to re-implement the mandate, Maniscalco said.

"Please be advised that it is strongly recommended that you wear a mask while inside for your safety and the safety of others as well as to keep the numbers low enough that the Town will not have to institute another mask mandate," Maniscalco said.
