Hundreds gathered on Monday to watch or take part in the South Windsor Memorial Day parade and subsequent ceremony at Veterans Memorial Park.
During the ceremony, state and town officials, as well as other dignitaries paid their respects to the men and women of the armed forces who died while serving the country.
Mayor Tom Delnicki reminded people that Memorial Day was more than just a day to have a barbecue.
"Never lose sight of the brave men and women who have given to their communities and to the nation," Delnicki said.
Guest speaker Col. William H. Adams, of East Windsor, recognized members of the National Guard who made the ultimate sacrifice while fighting this nation’s wars.
Veterans then laid wreaths at the monuments representing the wars - World War I, World War II, Korea and Vietnam - in which South Windsor residents had died.
The Police Honor Guard fired a salute, after which “Taps” and “Echo Taps” was played.
Rev. Doug Rowse then gave the benediction.
The photo gallery above captured some of the scenes from the parade and ceremony.
