South Windsor residents continue to search for Libby, the young English Shepherd that went missing from its home on Griffin Road on April 1.
Liz Swanson, Libby's owner, said that Libby showed up in her open crate on Wednesday morning (blankets and other familiar-smelling things as bait), but that the dog ran off once Swanson got close to her. The dog did accept a piece of cheese before disappearing into the woods, Swanson said.
While Libby still remains at-large, Swanson extended her thanks to the community for helping trying to track down the 2- to 3-year-old rescue dog.
"We've gotten an unbelievable response," Swanson said. "I cannot thank ... everyone else who has quickly responded to spreading alerts that Libby was missing. It is truly amazing how quickly friends and strangers come together to help."
Swanson said that Libby appeared to be in good health, but that the dog was shivering - more likely from nerves than from being cold, as the English Shepherd has a big, thick coat.
Libby is a rescue from North Carolina and, according to Swanson, she is likely just out of sorts with the stress recently in her life.
"She has been through so much in the last few months after being rescued and cared for by the group The National English Shepherd Rescue," Swanson wrote in an e-mail.
Libby, who is white, gold and brown and weighs 40 pounds, has been living with Swanson for about a week.
Anyone who spots the dog is asked to call Swanson at 860-644-9687.
