South Windsor 4th Grader to Compete in the Scripps National Spelling Bee

Keshav Ramesh will compete against 280 other entrants at this year's spelling bee starting on May 29.

The following is a press release from the South Windsor Public Library:

Fourth-grader Keshav Ramesh, the South Windsor Spelling Bee Champion, and his family will leave today (Sunday) for Washington, D.C. and the Scripps National Spelling Bee. Due to the generosity of the Friends of South Windsor Public Library, the South Windsor Community Foundation, and the South Windsor Public Education Fund, South Windsor Public Library was able to sponsor the 2013 Spelling Bee.

Over 100 students from the five elementary schools and Timothy Edwards Middle School participated in the qualifying rounds held in the fall of 2012.

The top three spellers from each elementary school and the top five spellers from TEMS then met in March 2013 for the final round.

Ramesh, a fourth grader from Eli Terry Elementary School was our champion. The winning word was "dervish."

Sandy Westbrook, Children's Librarian at the library, will also be attending the National Spelling Bee. Sandy will be blogging about the events of Bee Week on the South Windsor Patch blog; check out her first post here.

She will also post on the South Windsor Children's Department's Facebook page.
