South Windsor Athletes on Campus: Belanger Honored for Softball Achievements

Steph Belanger leads off a great week for South Windsor athletes currently competing at the collegiate level.

Here’s the latest on how former scholastic athletes from South Windsor are faring at the collegiate level:

Stephanie Belanger, a senior catcher on the American International College softball team, is having a great year for the 9-18 Yellow Jackets. Indeed, she has started all 27 games, and leads the team in batting average (.429), home runs (10) and RBIs (18). On April 9, Belanger was named to the Northeast-10 Softball Honor Roll after she batted .481 with a ..576 on-base percentage and a .926 slugging percentage in 10 games, totaling 13 hits with three homers, three doubles, five RBIs and five runs scored. ... The sisters Casiano continue to do well for their respective college women’s lacrosse teams. Amber Casiano (South Windsor High ‘09), a senior midfielder on the University of New Hampshire women’s lacrosse team, scored four goals in two games last week. She scored a brace in a 10-9 loss to Boston College on April 10, and followed that with another double in a 16-6 loss to Stony Brook on April 13. She is third on the team (4-9) in goals scored with 18 (20 points overall). ... Ashley Casiano (South Windsor High '09), the starting goalie for the Marist College women's lacrosse team, had 6 saves in a 22-8 victory over Manhattan on April 10. Casiano has started all 14 games for the 6-8 Red Foxes. She has made 102 saves on the year and has a .445 save percentage. ... South Windsor native Allyson Fournier (East Catholic High ‘11), a sophomore pitcher on the Tufts University softball team, improved her record to 11-1 on the year after allowing just one hit in four innings - and no earned runs - in a 11-1 victory over Trinity College on April 13. She lowered her ERA to 0.33, while raising her strikeout total to 115. The Jumbos are ranked 6th in Division III with a record of 25-2. … Brogan Canty (South Windsor High ‘12), a freshman attack at Plymouth State University women’s lacrosse team, scored a hat trick against Framingham State in a 21-2 victory on April 11. She has five goals on the year. … Greg Pendergast (South Windsor High ‘11), a sophomore defenseman on the Quinnipiac University men’s lacrosse team, picked up four ground balls for the Bobcats in a 13-12 triple-overtime victory over Sacred Heart on April 13. He has started eight of 11 games for the 5-6 Bobcats, picking up 22 ground balls along the way. … Kelsey Daniels’ (South Windsor High ‘10) UConn women’s lacrosse team is having a great year, posting a 11-1 record after 12 games. ... Michael Donahue (South Windsor High ‘09), a junior attack on the Western New England University men’s lacrosse team, is second on the team in goals scored with 17 and in points with 23. Donahue had a goal and three assists in a 20-4 victory over the University of New England on April 13. The Golden Bears are 7-5 on the year. ... Tori Thompson (South Windsor High ‘11), a sophomore catcher/outfielder on the University of Connecticut softball team, has appeared in 14 games for the 17-19 Huskies, including 10 starts. She is batting .161 with five hits and an RBI.
