South Windsor Athletes on Campus: Fournier Dominates, Belanger Receives Accolades
A wrap up of South Windsor athletes currently competing at the collegiate level.

What a year for South Windsor native Allyson Fournier (East Catholic High ‘11), a sophomore pitcher on the Tufts University softball team. Fournier tossed a complete-game two-hitter to help the top-seeded Jumbos cruise past Babson College, 9-1, on May 11 at the Babson Park Regional, moving to within one win from a second consecutive berth into the NCAA Division III Finals. Fournier struck out 10 and allowed just one walk en route to the victory. On the year, Fournier, the NESCAC Pitcher of the Year for the second straight year, has a stunning 20-1 record with a 0.36 ERA. She pitched 14 complete games, striking out 222 batters in 118 innings. Opponents are batting .083 against her. … Ashley Casiano (South Windsor High '09), the starting goalie for the Marist College women's lacrosse team, was named Second-Team All-MAAC on May 2 and the MAAC Women’s Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week on April 22. Casiano, the Red Foxes’ starting goalkeeper in all 17 games in 2013, posted a 10.57 goals against average and .451 save percentage and held her opponents to nine goals or less in seven straight games from March 21 through April 17. … Amber Casiano (South Windsor High ‘09), a senior midfielder on the University of New Hampshire women’s lacrosse team, was third on the team with 25 goals (27 points total) for the 6-11 Wildcats. … Brogan Canty (South Windsor High ‘12), a freshman attack at Plymouth State University women’s lacrosse team, scored nine goals on the year, including four against Fitchburg State in a 25-4 rout. … Stephanie Belanger (South Windsor High ‘09), a catcher on the American International College softball team, led the Yellow Jackets in batting average (.355), home runs (10) and RBIs (23) as well as fielding percentage (.986). She was named First-team Northeast 10 All-Conference for the second consecutive year and was presented with AIC’s F.J. Maloney Award, which is given annually to the individuals that had the most outstanding four-year athletic career at AIC. According to an AIC press release, “Belanger has proved to be one of the most talented and versatile players in the storied history of the AIC softball program, having been inserted into the starting lineup at catcher, second base, third base and as the designated player. She has started in each of her 181 career games played, batting .340 with 179 hits, 49 doubles, 28 home runs, 105 runs batted in and 94 runs scored to go with a .601 slugging percentage and a .429 on-base percentage, which ranks her in the top-ten on AIC's career lists in each category.” … Greg Pendergast (South Windsor High ‘11), a sophomore defenseman on the Quinnipiac University men’s lacrosse team, played in all 14 games for the Bobcats this year. ... Michael Donahue (South Windsor High ‘09), a junior attack on the Western New England University men’s lacrosse team, is tied for fifth on the team in goals with 20. The Golden Bears (13-6) upset No. 9 Nazareth 15-12 on May 11 in the second round of the 2013 NCAA Division III Men's Lacrosse Championship at Golden Flyer Stadium.
