South Windsor Athletes on Campus: Fournier 'Nearly Unhittable'

Here’s the latest on how former scholastic athletes from South Windsor are faring at the collegiate level:

South Windsor resident Allyson Fournier (East Catholic High ‘11), a sophomore pitcher on the Tufts University softball team, was “nearly unhittable” in an 11-0 victory over Bridgewater State on April 17, according to the Tufts athletics website. Fournier (14-1), who has strukc out 144 batters in 76.1 innings this season, struck out 14 of the 16 batters she faced and allowed just an infield single to lead off the fifth. Fournier somehow managed to lower her ERA to 0.28, while opponents are batting just .076 against her. She has been awarded the NESCAC Pitcher of the Week award twice this season (the latest on April 8), and five times in her short career. ... Two Casiano women had good weeks for their respective women's lacrosse teams. Amber Casiano (South Windsor High ‘09), a senior midfielder on the University of New Hampshire women’s lacrosse team, scored four goals in two games last week: two goals in a 13-12 victory over Boston University on April 17 and two goals in a 16-9 loss to Fairfield University on April 20. She is third on the team (5-10) in goals scored with 22 (24 points overall). ... Ashley Casiano (South Windsor High '09), the starting goalie for the Marist College women's lacrosse team, had 8 saves in a 19-5 victory over Iona on April 17. She followed up that performance with 15 saves in a 14-11 victory over Bucknell on April 20. With the two victories, the Red Foxes improved their record to 8-8. Ashley Casiano has started all 16 games in goal, making 125 saves on the year with a ..468 save percentage. .... Greg Pendergast (South Windsor High ‘11), a sophomore defenseman on the Quinnipiac University men’s lacrosse team, picked up two ground balls and caused a turnover in an 11-10 victory over Wagner on April 20. has started eight of 12 games for the 5-6 Bobcats, picking up 24 ground balls along the way. He is third on the team in ground balls. … Aaron Sladyk (South Windsor '12), a freshman on the Mitchell College men's lacrosse team, picked up a ground ball and caused five turnovers in an 11-10 victory over Nichols College on April 17. He is fourth on the team (9-2) in scoring with 21 points (13 goals and 8 assists. ... Kelsey Daniels’ (South Windsor High ‘10) UConn women’s lacrosse team is having a great year, posting a 13-1 record after 14 games. ... Tori Thompson (South Windsor High ‘11), a sophomore catcher/outfielder on the University of Connecticut softball team, has appeared in 17 games for the 22-20 Huskies, including 11 starts.
