South Windsor Firefighters Extinguish Early Morning Blaze

No injuries were reported.

The South Windsor Volunteer Fire Department knocked down an early morning blaze in a barn-type building on Collins Lane on Friday morning.

A family of six had to be evacuated from the home located at 8 Collins Lane due to the fire in the neighboring structure, according to South Windsor Police Sgt. Scott Custer.

"The barn structure was a large three section out building with a loft," Fire Chief Kevin Cooney wrote in a press release. "It was approximately 10’-15’ feet from an occupied home. The home (built in 1869) is one of the oldest homes in South Windsor."

The barn was a total loss, Cooney said, but the home only sustained heat damage to the siding and was re-occupied by the family.

The initial call came in from Sunrise Lane neighbor, who dialed 911 at 2:46 a.m., Custer said.

The fire was knocked down by firefighters within an hour.

Watch Commander Agent Ron Littell was first on the scene and helped evacuate the home's occupants, Custer said. No injuries were reported, though paramedics and EMTs were on the scene.

The fire is under investigation the by SW Fire Marshal’s Office.
