South Windsor Firefighters Extinguish Motor Vehicle Fire

No injuries were reported.

Members of the South Windsor Volunteer Fire Department on Monday afternoon knocked down a motor vehicle fire on Pleasant Valley Road, between Long Hill Road and Tudor Hill Road.

No injuries were reported.

Fire Chief Kevin Cooney said that three engines responded to a call of a Jeep Cherokee that caught fire while parked on on the side of the road. One engine put out the fire, while the other two provided support, Cooney said.

Cooney said that the driver pulled over because of what he thought was standard engine trouble. As the driver called for assistance, the vehicle caught on fire, Cooney said. The driver then called 9-1-1, Cooney said.

The fire was contained to the engine compartment, and there was smoke damage throughout the vehicle, Cooney said.

“It was probably totaled,” Cooney said.

The fire marshal is investigating the cause of the blaze, though Cooney said that there was nothing unusual at this point.
