Did you wonder what all the people were doing in South Windsor on Saturday April 27?
South Windsor boys and girls lacrosse had two major jamborees that day.
The boys jamboree was located at Rye Street Park and the girls jamboree was located at Nevers Road Park.
There were over 4,000 people who came to South Windsor that day, with over 1,000 children participating in lacrosse games.
Organizers of the event said it was a huge success for the Town of South Windsor and the lacrosse clubs of South Windsor.
Gary Bazzano, one of the organizers of the boys jamboree, commented that this is the fifth year for the boys jamboree and the first year for the girls.
“What better way to showcase South Windsor than to bring 4,000 people from out of town to your fields?” Bazzano asked rhetorically. “Sports are one of the only things a town offers that can bring so many people to town. Fields are one of the only things that out of towners really get to see when coming here. Sure they see buildings and roads but what they really see is the sports complexes. We have some of the best venues around. Rye Street Park is a premier venue that wasn’t around just a few years ago. ...
“We couldn’t have had these kinds of events a few years ago. Our fields were horrible to the point that other towns wouldn’t play us here. Now with the transfer of our parks department to the Recreation Department our fields have never looked better. It is a true testament to our parks crew in town, they do a fantastic job with the amount of resources they have. It’s just great to see so many people enjoying themselves in South Windsor. Dunkin’ Donuts was busier, Subway was busier and Geissler’s was even busier. These are the type of events that bring revenue to town and should make every resident proud to live in South Windsor.”
