South Windsor's Fournier Leads Tufts to NCAA Softball Title

Sophomore is named Most Outstanding Player of the NCAA Division III tournament.

South Windsor has a national champion among its residents.

Indeed, Allyson Fournier, a sophomore pitcher on the Tufts University softball team, closed out the Jumbos’ come-from-behind 6-5 victory over Cortland in the NCAA Division III title game on Monday in Eau Claire, WI.

Fournier, a South Windsor resident who graduated from East Catholic High in 2011, had an amazing run at the NCAA tournament, winning four games and earning Most Outstanding Player accolades along the way.
According to NCAA.com, in the first three games of the tournament, she allowed just one run and 12 hits in 22 innings.

In the title game, she surrendered five runs on 12 hits in seven innings, but she retired the final five batters to earn the victory. She struck out eight in the game.

The championship caps a dream season for Fournier, who compiled Nintendo statistics along the way. She had a 25-1 record with a 0.59 ERA (allowing just 13 earned runs), while striking out 272 batters in 154 innings for the 46-3 Jumbos. She also had two saves.
