Vernon Police Looking Into Three More Overnight Burglaries

The crimes are similar to those committed about a month ago, police said.

Vernon police are investigating a trio of nighttime residential burglaries on three streets.

Police said that on Saturday, during the overnight hours, burglars either broke into or tried to get into three different single-family homes on Regan Road, Legion Drive, and Emily Drive. The three homes that were burglarized were all occupied by residents who were sleeping, police said.

The burglaries were discovered when residents woke up in the morning.

Detectives responded to each scene to assist in the investigation. Vernon police said they are looking into the "strong likelihood" that the burglaries are connected and were committed by the same person or persons.

Police are also trying to determine whether the Saturday burglaries are related to similar burglaries reported on May 8, down and across West Street.

Police are telling residents to take precautions, such as closing and locking all ground-floor windows while sleeping or not at home and to lock all doors, particularly with deadbolt-style locks. The use of motion-sensor spotlights is also recommended, police said.

Statistically night-time residential burglaries are not very common, police said.

Anyone with information about the crimes is urged to call Vernon police at 860-872-9126. Callers can remain anonymous. Police said any residents who observe suspicious or unusual activity are urged to call them immediately.
