What Road in South Windsor Needs a Speed Bump?

We asked Patch readers on Facebook what streets they thought needed a speed bump. Find out what your neighbors told us.

SOUTH WINDSOR, CT - Over 9,000 fatalities occurred nationally during 2014 due to speeding according to the latest statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The data also shows a correlation between a driver’s age and the likelihood of a speed-related accident. As the age of a driver increases, their risk of being in an accident decreases. Men are also more likely to be at the wheel during a speeding accident, according to the study.

While the number of speed-related fatalities have continually decreased since 2005, speeding still remains an issue in many of our Patch communities, including South Windsor. Readers suggested everything from increased police presence to more stop signs to building less housing to keep traffic at bay.

  • "Benedict Drive, between Spruce & Goldmine. Cars and motorcycles race up and down the street with no concern for families with smaller children. When we bought our house, we had no idea the Autobahn would be in our front yard."
  • "Woodland Drive. It's a straight run from Avery to Laurel, and cars easily get to 50+. When my windows are open I can hear crash shifting gears...and there are no sidewalks."
  • "Pierce Road! It connects our busiest streets, Sullivan Avenue & Ellington Road. Not to mention, It could use a stoplight where Pierce opens onto Ellington Road."
  • "Pleasant Valley by VMP. Why people have to race past the 7-11 is beyond me. Motorcycles have been especially bad lately and could use a bump."
  • "Chapel Road. We've had motorcycles and cars racing side by side down that street. It's also the bike trail and many people exercise on the street."
  • "Miller Road. Maybe it would slow down the people doing 50+ over the hill in front of my house!"
  • "The crosswalk on Graham to Eli Terry (constant speeding and many do not stop for people in the crosswalk)."
  • "Graham Road. Maybe that would stop the jerk who keeps driving 100+ mph past my house!!! I wish the SW police would catch him already."
  • "Avery St. People try to see how fast they can get going from stop sign to stop sign. Kids do live there!"
  • "Brook Street! Right next to the path that goes to Eli Terry. The road is 26' wide and cars fly down the hill. Not to mention there is a blind corner, a crosswalk, and school crossing signs. All of which are disregarded by drivers."
