STAFFORD, CT — A suspected drunken driver attempted to speed out of a parking lot, but crashed into a ditch in Stafford, state police said.

According to a crash report, at 8:20 p.m. on April 14, state troopers were dispatched to the 300 block of East Street, where an ambulance crew had encountered a man who tried to speed out of a tavern parking lot, but wound up in a ditch in the process.

The Ford Fusion had run down a sign post, state police said.

The driver was not injured, but did fail a field sobriety test and was arrested, according to a crash report.

The 32-year-old man from Sturbridge, MA, was charged with driving under the influence, making an improper turn and first-degree criminal mischief, according to an arrest report.
