STAFFORD, CT — A Stafford man who chose to be tried before a judge rather than a jury in a sexual assault trial has been found guilty.

Craig P. Nowak, the state's attorney for the Tolland Judicial District, said that that Judge Tejas Bhatt Monday found William James Flint, 43, of Stafford Springs, guilty of first- and second-degree sexual assault and two counts of risk of injury to a minor.

Flint had waived his right to a jury trial and elected to be tried before the court in Rockville before Judge Bhatt.

Nowak said evidence at the trial showed that Flint sexually assaulted two juvenile girls in Stafford from 2014 to 2019.

Both girls, who are now adults, testified that Flint sexually assaulted them, both individually and together, Nowak said.

One of the girls testified that Flint sexually assaulted her from 2014 to 2019. The second girl testified that the defendant sexually assaulted her from 2014 to 2015, Nowak said.

After announcing the guilty verdict, Judge Bhatt ordered Flint held on a bond of $450,000. Sentencing is scheduled for March 10, 2026 in Rockville Superior Court.

Nowak prosecuted the case with the assistance of Division of Criminal Justice Inspector John DiVenere and Detective Justine Cedergren of the Connecticut State Police, Troop C, Eastern District Major Crime Squad.
