Stafford's Broadhurst Repeats As Regional Player Of The Year For ECSU

WILLIMANTIC, CT — Eastern Connecticut State University senior third baseman Luke Broadhurst of Stafford has repeated as regional Player-of-the-Year on both the ABCA/Rawlings and D3baseball.com All-New England Region II teams.

The ABCA designates its Player-of-the-Year award as Position Player-of-the-Year.

Broadhurst was joined on both first teams by senior catcher Matt Malcom (East Lyme) – a former D3baseball.com regional second-teamer and Rookie-of-the-Year and first-year junior shortstop Zach Donahue (South Windsor), while senior right-handed pitcher Bryan Albee (Killingly) was named to the first team by the ABCA and second team by D3baseball.com.

Players voted to the first teams by both ABCA and D3baseball.com are eligible for All-America consideration when those teams are released later this week.

The ABCA recognized a total of 48 players on first, second and third teams and D3baseball.com honored 44 players on its three all-region teams. This year for the first time, the New England Region was split into Region I and Region II.

A 2021 first-team D3baseball.com and second-team ABCA All-America and a 2022 repeater as Little East Player-of-the-Year, Broadhurst is completing a record-breaking career this year for the Warriors (44-3), who have been ranked No. 1 in New England all season long and No. 1 nationally the past two weeks heading into their 13th NCAA Division III national tournament beginning Friday.

A third baseman, Broadhurst has set personal career-bests in numerous categories this year. He is batting .425 and slugging at .822, with 120 total bases, 49 RBI, 56 runs, with a .543 on-base percentage. His career slugging percentage (.725) is second all-time to former national Player-of-the-Year Basilio Ortiz (.729).
