WILLINGTON, CT — A tire malfunction on a tractor-trailer on Interstate 84 caused a scary situation in Tolland County, state police from the Troop C barracks said.

The situation unraveled at 7:30 a.m. last Saturday, when a truck in the center lane on the eastbound side of the highway had a tire go near Exit 71 in Willington, according to a crash report.

The driver, a 25-year-old from New Jersey, then lost control of the truck, and it shot across the right-hand lane and into a guardrail, according to a crash report.

The driver escaped injury, but the accident caused damage to about 100 feet of the guardrail, state police said.

The driver was cited for a lane violation.
