WILLINGTON, CT — A tractor-trailer driver was killed on Route 32 in Willington Tuesday morning, state police said.

The crash took place just before 6 a.m. Route 32 is known locally as River Road. The tractor-trailer veered off the road while heading north and slammed into a Frontier utility pole on the right shoulder and then a guardrail on the opposite side of the road, according to a crash report. The truck is owned by Coast to Coast Express out of Windsor Locks, state police said.

The driver, identified as 55-year-old Jeffrey Benis, of Windsor Locks, was taken to Rockville General Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, according to a crash report.
