Vehicles Damaged By Flying Ice On I-84 From Last Storm Now Total 6
State police said the ice damage count is up to six vehicles on I-84 in Tolland County related to drivers failing to clean off their roofs.

TOLLAND COUNTY, CT — A total of six vehicles have been now been hit with flying ice from vehicle roofs on Interstate 84 in Tolland County as a result of the Feb. 16 winter storm that hit north central Connecticut, according to state police.
State police released details of the incidents this week.
According to a crash report, at 4:51 p.m. on Feb. 17, a BWM X3 was headed west near Exit 70 when ice dislodged from a tractor-trailer and and landed on its windshield. The driver and both passengers were unhurt, state police said.

At 10:27 a.m. on. Feb. 18, a 2021 Kia Telluride was headed west near Exit 65 in Vernon when ice fell off the roof of a 2007 Nissan Altima and hit its windshield and hood, according to a crash report. The driver of the Sentra kept going., state police said. No injuries were reported.
About two hours later that day in Willington, a slab of ice slammed into the windshield of a tractor-trailer near the Exit 70 westbound rest area. The driver's vision was blocked, so he could not make out the offending vehicle, state police said. The 27-year-ild suffered a minor injury, state police said.

At noontime on Feb. 19, ice broke off another unknown vehicle that was in front of a 2013 Subaru Outback on I-84 in Vernon and landed on the car's windshield, according to a crash report. no injuries were reported.
On Feb. 21 at 1:31 p.m., a 2019 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter was headed west near Exit 65 in Vernon when ice came flying off a 2011 Toyota Rav4 in front of it and landed on the hood. No injuries were reported, but the driver of the Toyota was warned about cleaning ice and snow off the roof, according to a crash report.
On the day of the storm itself, a sizable piece of ice came flying off a pickup truck on a stretch of Interstate 84 in Tolland and caused a crash during Sunday's winter storm, state police said.
According to a crash report, shortly after 11 a.m., a 2012 Audi Q5 being driven by a 35 year-old Willington man was heading east in the left-hand lane near Exit 68 when a "large block of ice" broke off the roof of a 2020 Ram 3500 pickup slightly ahead of the Audi in the right lane and hit the windshield on the driver's side of the Audi, according to a crash report. The Audi's windshield was completely smashed, but neither the driver of the Audi and his passengers — an 11-year-old girl and a 34-year-old woman, sustained an injury, according to a crash report.
The driver of the pickup, a 26-year-old from Waterbury, was not hurt, but was verbally warned for failing to clean the ice off his vehicle, according to a crash report.
