Wrong-Way I-84 Driver Charged With DUI After Tolland County Stop: State Police
A drunken wrong-way driver was stopped and arrested in Tolland County over the weekend, state police said in a report.

WILLINGTON, CT — A drunken wrong-way driver was stopped and arrested in Tolland County over the weekend, state police said in a report.
According to an arrest report, at 4:17 a.m. Sunday, the state police Troop C barracks received multiple 911 calls reporting a wrong way-driver on I-84 in the town of Willington. The wrong way vehicle was reportedly traveling west in the eastbound lanes, and the calls placed the vehicle in the vicinity of the Willington rest area, according to an arrest report
Responding troopers located the vehicle shortly thereafter, which was stopped in the center median near exit 69 in Tolland, facing the wrong way, according to an arrest report.

Troopers made contact with the operator, who was identified as David Alvarado, 29, of Vernon. Upon speaking with Alvarado, Troopers noticed signs of impairment and the odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from inside the vehicle, according to an arrest report. Alvarado subsequently failed sobriety tests, state police said.

Alvarado was released from custody on a $25,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Rockville Superior Court on July 2.
