Yo-Yo Ma, one of the most iconic musicians in history, will perform in Stamford with Orchestra Lumos.

STAMFORD, CT — World-renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma will perform with Orchestra Lumos on May 24 and May 25 at the Palace Theater as part of Our Common World, the final program of the 2024-2025 Orchestra Lumos Palace Series season.

Known internationally for his musicianship and advocacy for the cultural and unifying power of the arts, Ma will join the orchestra under the baton of Music Director Michael Stern.

“It is a privilege to welcome Yo-Yo Ma to the Palace Theater to join us for these concerts,” said Michael Stern, music director of Orchestra Lumos, in a news release.

“There is nobody I can think of who communicates the pure joy of making music in live performances more than Yo-Yo Ma. He is more than a household name, one of the most iconic figures in American music today, and the pre-eminent cellist of our time," Stern added. "To me, more than anything, Yo-Yo Ma has always brought his unparalleled artistry to bear on what it means in our modern world to be a responsible citizen and leader. There could be no better musical partner than he to enliven this extraordinary program highlighting the profound relationship between humanity and the natural world."

The program will feature Josef Haydn’s "Cello Concerto No. 1"—a piece thought lost until it was rediscovered in 1961—and Antonín Dvořák’s "Silent Woods," a reflective work composed as Dvořák prepared to leave his homeland for America.
