Danbury Woman Charged in Stamford with Impersonating Police

A 37-year-old Danbury woman was arrested Tuesday when police responded to complaints that she was allegedly pretending to be a police officer, authorities announce Wednesday.

Authorities were dispatched to 349 West Avenue at approximately 1:15 p.m. when a complainant called authorities and said a woman was harassing him and claiming to be a police officer, police said.

According to authorities, the complainant had been employing the son of the woman who was ultimately arrested, identified by police as Nona Zittel, of Beaverbrook Rd., at the caller's cleaning service business.

Authorities said the caller had planned on terminating the employment of Zittel's son Tuesday, and was meeting the 20-year-old to pay him the money he was owed for the final days of his employment and collect cleaning supplies and equipment.

The caller alleged Zittel's son did not bring the cleaning supplies or equipment with him, so the former employer withheld the man's payment, police said. At that point, police said Zittel showed up and began yelling at the man for not paying and the son had allegedly been telling his mother he had not been getting paid at all.

Zittel allegedly began taking pictures of the caller and, when the caller asked her to stop, told the man she could do what she wanted as she was a police officer who worked in law enforcement, police said. 

According to authorities, Zittel claimed she never said she was a police officer, only that she worked in law enforcement. She produced for authorities a Securitas private security ID, police said. 

Zittel was arrested and released on a Promise To Appear. Her court date is set for Oct. 30.

Other Arrests

Cesar Calderone-Arriole, 25, of Southfield Ave., was charged Tuesday morning with second-degree harassment and first-degree criminal trespass.

Carl Dawkins, 21, of Tresser Blvd., was charged Tuesday night with second-degree criminal trespass, possession of narcotics and second-degree burglary.

Joseph Allen Donnelly, 31, of Cove Rd., was charged Monday night with violation of probation.

Michael A. Merritt, 30, of Overhill St., was charged Monday afternoon with second-degree strangulation, disorderly conduct and third-degree assault.

Donne Stelzl, 43, of Lake Shore Dr. in Pleasantville, NY, was charged Wednesday morning with second-degree breach of peace and third-degree criminal trespass.
