Police, fire and EMS personnel responded to a home in the Springdale neighborhood after 911 received a "distressing call" from a child reporting that his mother had passed out and was dying, O'Meara said Monday.
"While responding to the call, all units became aware the child would unlock the door and allow first responders inside the home. Upon arrival, I found fire and EMS personnel attending to the child's mother, who had suffered a medical episode in front of her 7-year-old son Zavier Cordero," O'Meara said. "Displaying remarkable bravery, Zavier called 911 and accurately described his mother's need for immediate assistance."

O'Meara brought Zavier into the living room where he recounted the events of the night.
"He also mentioned he was a second grader at Springdale Elementary School," O'Meara said.
Cordero's mother was taken to Stamford Hospital for treatment, and Zavier provided officers with phone numbers of relatives who could care for him while his mother received medical attention.
"All personnel present at that scene were impressed by Zavier's quick thinking and calm demeanor, which likely played a crucial role in saving his mother's life or preventing further injuries," O'Meara added.
The Police Commission played a redacted 911 call in which Cordero can be heard calmly describing what happened to his mother and providing vital information to dispatch.
Stamford Police Chief Timothy Shaw called Cordero a "special individual."
