Stamford Liquor Store Charged With Selling Liquor to Minor

Officers on patrol in the area of Shippan Avenue and Park Street Wednesday afternoon at around 4 p.m. made two arrests for alleged liquor law violations after an employee at allegedly sold alcohol to a minor, police said Thursday morning. 

Officers had been keeping an eye on the store due to some , and while on patrol, police spotted what appeared to be an underage male enter the store and leave with a bag, police said.

Police stopped the male, identified as Kyle G. Mangan, of Nickerson Ln. in Darien, and asked him if he was 21. He allegedly replied, "No, I'm 18," and then informed the officers the clerk in the store had not asked for ID, police said.Mangan was allegedly in possession of a 750ml bottle of Burnett's Fruit Punch Vodka at the time he was stopped.

The woman in question, whom police identified as store owner Sultana Kabir, 41, of Woodmere Rd., allegedly exited the store at this point and informed officers she believed to have already known the male to be 21.

Mangan was charged with being a minor in possession of alcohol in public, issued a summons and released on scene.

Kabir was charged with illegal sale of liquor to a minor. The incident will also be reported to the Connecticut Liqor Control Commission, who will act on the incidents further.

Other Arrests

Dewayne Cecile Grant, 25, of Courtland Cir., was charged Wednesday night with possession of marijuana.

Julio Ceasar Lopez, 30, of Fairfield Ave., was harged Wednesday afternoon with first-degree unlawful restraint, conspiracy to commit unlawful restraint and carrying a dangerous weapon.

Rashe Koedi Sadio, 19, of W. Broad St., was charged Wednesday night with failure to respond to a payable violation.

David Patrick Shaffer, 31, of High Ridge Rd., was charged early Thursday morning with evading responsibility while causing property damage or injury, operating or towing an unregistered motor vehicle and reckless driving.
