Stamford Mom 'Makes Us Believe We Can Do Anything,' Daughter Says
Patch and T-Mobile are partnering to shine a light on awesome moms in the Stamford area. Meet Silvana Evanko!

STAMFORD, CT— Moms do so much for everyone around them. We try to celebrate them all year long, but Mother's Day is a perfect opportunity to shout it from the rooftops and post it on Patch: Mom rocks!
Here at Patch we've launched an initiative to help recognize the awesome moms and mom figures in communities like yours.
This submission comes from Lisa Evanko Cingari who nominated Silvana Evanko of Stamford.
What makes your Mom extra special?
My mom arrived in Stamford, CT in 1962 at the age of 13 from Settefrati, Italy. She is the greatest mother because of all her accomplishments.
She is my role model. She made sure I went to college. She made sacrifices to work hard so we love her for that. She is an amazing cook, but what we love is how she continues all her Italian traditions. Passing that down to her children and grandchildren. Making homemade everything!
She retired from Stamford Hospital Maternity Floor after 36 years as a unit coordinator, now she gets to spend more time with her grandchildren. Going to baseball games, volleyball games, swim meets or just a family lunch. We love just spending time with Nonna. We still love to jar tomatoes with her.
She never stops and makes us believe we can do anything.
Why do you feel your Mom deserves the spotlight?
My mom has never been told she was the greatest mom. And she would never want us to say that. She is very humble. After walking in Cove Island on May 16, 2012 my dad had a heart attack right in front of her. At 62 yrs old she became a widow. We had a bench placed at Cove Island. It’s a place we go together and she is so strong to be there with us. It’s been 11 years since she lost her true love, and I want her to know my dad would be very proud of the mother she has continued to be. She is the greatest mother in the world.
Happy Mother's Day to Silvana Evanko, and thank you for all you do!
