Stamford Student Heads to Robotics Finals

Wendy Lichtenberg of Stamford and Clayton Collum eighth out of 40 teams by scoring 36 points in the final match of the VEX IQ Challenge.

From The Harvey School: Harvey’s Middle School robotics program qualified for the state tournament thanks to seventh-grader Wendy Lichtenberg of Stamford and her sixth-grade partner, Clayton Collum. The pair placed eighth out of 40 teams by scoring 36 points in the final match of the VEX IQ Challenge state-qualifier competition Saturday, Feb. 11, at East Rockaway High School on Long Island.

Competing in the second match of the finals, Wendy scored 36 crucial bonus points for her team when she successfully balanced her robot on the bridge with just seconds to go. The teammates then waited anxiously on the sidelines for three matches to see if the other finalists would outscore them.

When a team in a subsequent round scored 46 points, Wendy and Clayton found themselves in second place. They held on to the runner-up spot when the remaining teams could not keep their robots from falling off the bridge.
