2-Alarm Fire Hits Mystic Shipyard Storage Building

It took firefighters from around the area more than six hours to extinguish a blaze at a shipyard warehouse overnight.

MYSTIC, CT — Firefighters extinguished a second-alarm fire at Mystic Shipyard that was reported Monday night.

Firefighters responded at 10:32 p.m. and arrived at the 100 Essex St. address to find smoke and fire visible in the sky, according to a post from the Mystic Fire Department.

A storage building at the site was on fire and its roof was burning.

Firefighters from around the area provided assistance.

The fire was extinguished at 4:34 a.m.

There was no fire damage to any boats and no injuries were reported.

A detached warehouse and office building at the shipyard "experienced major structural and smoke damage from the fire and were deemed uninhabitable by fire and building officials," according to a Town of Groton police statement.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
