Long Island Sound Water Quality Improvement Volunteers Needed
Eastern CT Conservation District is seeking volunteers to help improve the water quality in Stonington and LI Sound

Eastern CT Conservation District received a grant from the Long Island Sound Future Fund to help improve the water quality in Quanaduck Cove and Long Island Sound. This volunteering event would be a great opportunity for seniors and college students in environmental programs, who may be interested in natural resource conservation, or persons who are just environmental enthusiasts! This would look great on their resume, and feel wonderful in their soul!
The dates are next week, Tuesday - Friday 5/16-5/19 starting at 10 am and ending when volunteers need to leave. The project involves almost 700 native plants to plant along a 375 linear feet of a pond to act as a buffer and infiltrate stormwater runoff. The native plants will help to give the pollinators a path to follow. The project is located in Stonington, CT near the Admiral Fife Recreational facility and Stonington Pizza.
The students from Grasso Technical HS and their Mechanical Design and Engineering instructor, Thuan Huynh in Groton have been assisting with another aspect of this project, involving the design and construction of downspout planters that will infiltrate stormwater off of the roofs. Other students at Grasso Tech and their instructors Jimmy Moran and Christopher McVeigh from the Bioscience Environmental Technology department will assist in the installation of the planters.
