MYSTIC, CT — Mystic Aquarium has announced a new three-year partnership with Electric Boat, marking one of the most significant corporate collaborations in the aquarium’s history.

The alliance will support STEM education, workforce development, and ocean conservation initiatives across Connecticut. Funded through the Navy’s Maritime Industrial Base Program, the partnership aims to connect students and the public with career opportunities in marine science and submarine manufacturing.

“This collaboration with Electric Boat represents a pivotal moment, not just for our mission, but for the future of the STEM workforce and global conservation efforts,” Tina Couch, chief advancement officer at Mystic Aquarium, said in a statement.

As part of the agreement, Electric Boat will fund a new interactive exhibit set to open in 2026. The exhibit will feature mechanical and electronic components designed to engage visitors in the technologies behind submarine construction and marine research.

The partnership will also introduce a new internship initiative—Electric Boat Fellows and Scholars—offering hands-on experience to three college students and six high school students. Interns will work within Mystic Aquarium’s Education and Conservation Department, contributing to summer camps, outreach efforts, and public programming.

In October, the Aquarium will host a Career Expo during Manufacturing Month to spotlight Connecticut’s role in submarine production. The event will highlight intersections between marine science and shipbuilding.

Speakers from Electric Boat will also appear at upcoming Aquarium-hosted events, including Women in Science, World Oceans Day, and the Career Expo.

The Aquarium will promote Electric Boat’s career pathways through digital media, helping to inform both youth and adults about available training and job opportunities.

“This partnership reflects the power of aligning industry, education, and community,” Erica Logan, workforce director for the Navy’s Maritime Industrial Base Program, said in a statement. “By introducing young minds to marine science and the technologies behind submarine manufacturing, we’re not just expanding awareness—we’re opening doors to meaningful careers that strengthen our national security.”
