PAWCATUCK, CT — A Rt. 2 crash involving three vehicles, a box truck carrying food products, a landscape company trailer and a sedan sent five people to the hospital Tuesday morning, according to Stonington Deputy Police Chief Todd Olson. All the injuries were described as non-life-threatening, he said.

The crash, which is under investigation by Stonington police, happened just before 7:3o a.m. on Route 2 just north of the off-ramp to the Interstate and Stop & Shop, Olson said. The roadway was shut down and will likely remain so until around noon, Olson said.

The Connecticut State Police "truck squad" will be inspecting the truck to ensure no hazardous spills save for the fuel it runs on, Olson said, and once that's completed, the tangled vehicles will be "pulled apart" and put on wreckers and towed away.
