Scammers Pose As Police Officers In Stonington Scheme
Police are warning residents about common fraud attempts.
STONINGTON, CT — The police department "has received numerous calls regarding a potential scam."
Residents are receiving phone calls from supposed Stonington police officers looking to extract information from residents, according to police.
"Callers can be very convincing often using elaborate schemes such as the threat of possible arrest or looking for personal information to verify identities," police said. "Most times the goal is to obtain some form of payment."

Police said the information is "only being shared for situational awareness."
To protect yourself, police said to not share personal information over the phone under these circumstances.
