Stonington, North Stonington's Unofficial Results in April 2016 Presidential Primary

The unofficial results from the 2016 presidential primary were posted by the Secretary of State's office.

On Tuesday night, Connecticut moved the country closer to a general election match-up of Donald Trump versus Hillary Clinton.

Trump rolled to victory in Connecticut, receiving 109,081 or 58.27 percent of the vote, followed by John Kasich, 52,485 and Ted Cruz, 21,841.

Ben Carson still received 1,512 votes and 2,286 people voted but didn’t actually pick a person, according to the office of the Secretary of State.

On the Democratic side, the race was much closer, with Sanders enjoying a slight lead for most of the night until Clinton caught up and surpassed him just after 10:30 p.m.

Clinton secured 141,298 votes or 51.03 percent of the vote to Sanders's 130,569 votes or 47.15 percent of the vote. More than 4,000 people didn’t pick a candidate on the Democratic side.

Overall, Trump swept all five states Tuesday while Clinton won four of five contests only dropping Rhode Island. Sanders vowed to continue until the end.
