Tractor Trailer Strikes North Stonington Restaurant Building: Report

WFSB cited police in a report that at 7:50 a.m., a semi struck the building at 386 Norwich-Westerly Road. The site is Buon Appetito eatery.

NORTH STONINGTON, CT — A tractor trailer crashed into a commercial North Stonington building early Thursday morning, according to reports.

WFSB 3 TV cited state police in its report that at around 7:50 a.m., the semi struck a building in the area of 386 Norwich-Westerly Road.

That address is home to award-winning Italian eatery Buon Appetito Ristorante & Pizzeria.

An employee that picked up the phone at the popular eatery told Patch that no one was injured, but referred other questions to the owner, who could not be reached for comment.

It was reported that one person was transported to the hospital as state police, and North Stonington emergency and fire personnel responded.

WFSB reported, citing state police, that the tractor trailer had a load of "unspecified consumable goods."

Both the state departments of Energy and Environmental Protection and Consumer Protection also responded.

Buon Appetito was named the best restaurant in North Stonington by TripAdvisor.

According to NBC Connecticut, the truck crashed through the outdoor patio of the eatery and the driver suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Residents who live above the restaurant were home but not injured, NBC CT reported.

The owner told NBC CT that he is just grateful that no one was seriously injured, and that they hope to reopen soon and plan to block off the area that was struck by the truck. (Click here to see NBC CT's photos and videos from the scene.)
