Bunnell Bulldog's Bazile Excels at 2025 Bethel Indoor Pentathlon
Talented and sister Bulldog, Jenna Willmont, a freshman, in her first season, earns a trip to be with the experienced track and field elite

On Saturday January 18th Bunnell’s Lincey Bazile, a Junior, continued her prowess ways in the sport of track and field earning a second place finish in a multi-state Girls Pentathlon being held at Bethel High School’s indoor track and field arena.
Bazile was not alone, she and fellow teammate Jenna Willmont, a Freshman, were the lone Bunnell entrees where Bazile took Wilmont under her “wing” to show her the “ropes”. Bazile also made mention it is very rare a freshman is entered into a pentathlon this early in a career.
Willmont has shown talent and promise in the sport and is off to a tremendous start in her first year at high school competition. Bazile says “Wilmont demonstrates smooth rhythm, coordination, and is building up a lot of strength during her first six weeks” at the high school level.

Saturday afternoon’s penthalon events were the 55 Meter High Hurdle dash, the High Jump, Long Jump, Shot Put Events, and concluded with the 800 Meter race. Certainly a grueling day lasting more than seven hours.
There were twenty- eight entries to start off the day.

A point scoring system is in place with each event having a different scoring value.
The first event on the afternoon was the 55 High Hurdle Meter dash. Bazile raced her way to the top spot with a time of 9.06 seconds and 780 points.
Willmont finished with a time of 11.86 seconds earning 274 points for the effort.
The second event was the High Jump event. Each athlete gets three attempts at each height, once attained they move on to the next height.
Willmont earned 312 points by jumping just shy of four feet finishing at 3 feet 11 ¼ inches.
Bazile finished fifth in the high jump earning 566 points with a jump of 4 feet 9 inches. With the jump Bazile is ranked 33rd out of all State of Connecticut girl high jumpers.
The girls went over to the shot put ring for the Shot Put Event.
Bazile took third place with a heave of 27 feet 11-0 inches along with it 432 points.
Willmont grabbed 292 points with a throw of 20 feet 9 inches and a 16th place finish.
The fourth event on the afternoon was the Long Jump.
It was a learning and developmental moment for Willmont where she cast three attempts and fouled out.
Bazile leaped 15 feet 3 ½ inches earning 469 more points and it was scoreboard watching time as she shared third and fourth place overall most of the afternoon turned evening.
Both Bulldog athletes focused in on the final event of the day, the 800 Meter race. As they warmed up for the race they discussed strategies along the way.
Looking up at the overall pentathlon standings Bazile trailed, at times to, Stella Purdy, out of Loomis Chaffee (Windsor), Cassidy O’Conner, out of Windham, and Emily Brown, out of Cheriho Regionl (Rhode Island).
The 800 Meter race was worth 622 points to the winner. Each of the top four having a chance to capture the pentathlon crown.
Bazile got off to a strong start with a 35 second first 200 meter lap. Also strong was Purdy and Brown. O’Conner was a few seconds off of the pace.
Lap three saw Bazile fall behind a bit with Brown taking over the lead and Purdy trailing Bazile. Bazile, now in fourth place, crept ahead of Coginchaug’s Jane Waterman into third place.
Bazile captured third with a time of 2:40. With the 2:40 time, a personal best, Bazile is now ranked 30th out of all State of Connecticut 800 Meter runners. Bazile garnered 562 points
Brown took the top spot with a time of 2:35 seconds and took home the 622 points for a total of 3034 points to win the 2025 Bethel Girls Pentathlon.
Pentathlon meet director Yvonne Grimes was now tasked with the scoring for second and third place.
When totals became final Bazile scored 2809 taking second place overall.
Willmont raced her way to a 2:53 finish adding 431 points, and a 12th place finish.
Both Bulldog athletes are looking forward to their next meet with the rest of their teammates on Friday January 24th at the Floyd Little Athletic Center for the Hillhouse Varsity Showcase and again on Saturday January 25th in Bethel for the South West Conference Developmental Meet.
