Christ Episcopal Church Presents "Kyrie Eleison" Concert

The public is invited to attend the free event.

March 15, 2016 – As part of Holy Week observances, Christ Episcopal Church is offering a free concert featuring assorted musical settings of the traditional verse, “Kyrie Eleison” (Lord have Mercy). Travelling through time, the choral concert starts with 20th century guitar versions then regresses to the 16th and 17th centuries, with a four-part recorder piece by the area’s Richmond Consort and a fugue chant with organ by Francois Couperin.

The Greek phrase “Kyrie Eleison, Christe Eleison” has been part of Christian worship for centuries, with each succeeding era setting the prayer to music with rich and various styles and sounds. Also featured in the concert will be: early music played on authentic instruments; settings by Haydn and Schubert; as well as Christ Church’s popular Bell Choir performing a 21st century “Kyrie” for bells.
