Extreme Heat Prompts Cooling Center Protocol In Stratford

STRATFORD, CT — Due to the extreme heat forecasted over the next few days, the Town of Stratford has activated its Cooling Center Protocol, effective immediately through 8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 30.
Residents, especially those who are elderly, have underlying health conditions, or are otherwise vulnerable, are strongly advised to take precautions and make use of the cooling centers available in town.

For Overnight and Long-Term Sheltering: Residents in need of overnight or extended sheltering should contact the 211 System by dialing 2-1-1 for assistance.
A list of active cooling centers is maintained and updated on the State of Connecticut WEBEOC website.

- Monday – Thursday: 5:30 a.m. – 9 p.m.
- Friday: 5:30 a.m. – 7 p.m.
- Saturday: 7 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.
- Sunday: 8 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
Prevention Tips to Stay Safe in Extreme Heat:
- Drink more fluids than usual
- Wear lightweight and light color clothing
- Infants, people over 65, and those in ill health regardless of age should take extra precautions
- Limit alcohol consumption during warmer weather
- Limit pets’ exposure during hottest periods
- Monitor overexertion during hot periods
