Holiday Closures Announced For Juneteenth In Stratford
Officials announce the schedule for town buildings and trash collection for the Juneteenth holiday.

STRATFORD, CT — Town offices will be closed Thursday, June 19, in observance of Juneteenth, officials announced.
The Sanitation Division of Public Works will be working to provide uninterrupted collection of refuse, recycling, and yard waste, according to Mayor Laura Hoydick. The Transfer Station on Watson Boulevard will also be open.
“Today, we raised the Juneteenth flag in honor of a vital moment in American history—the end of slavery and the ongoing pursuit of freedom and equality,” Hoydick wrote in a post on Facebook. “As we reflect on this day, we recommit to the values of justice, dignity, and inclusion for all.

“This year, the Juneteenth flag was raised by State Senator Herron Keyon Gaston, Stratford Fire Chief Jermaine Atkinson, and Stratford Councilmen Alvin O'Neal and Anthony Afriyie. Thank you to Father Reginald (Reggie) Norman of St. Mark Church for an inspiring invocation and benediction, and thank you to Jeffrey Fletcher of the Ruby & Calvin Fletcher African-American Museum for your uplifting remarks and exciting update on the museum's latest endeavor.”
