ID Released In Fatal Jet Ski Crash In Stratford

A jet skier was killed in a crash in Stratford.

STRATFORD, CT — The operator involved in the fatal jet ski crash on the Housatonic River in Stratford on Wednesday night has been identified as Carlos Cruz Gonzalez, 45, of Bridgeport, officials said in an update Friday morning.

The state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection’s EnCon police responded to an area near Sikorsky Aircraft around 10 p.m. on June 4 on the report of a crash.

Officers found the overturned jet ski along the west bank of the river, according to James Fowler of the DEEP.

Fowler said the operator was found a short distance away and was pronounced dead at the scene.

“DEEP’s EnCon Police Boating Accident Reconstruction Unit and Investigative Unit responded to assist in the investigation,” Fowler wrote in a news release. “Local agencies, including Shelton FD, Stratford FD, Sikorsky Fire and Milford Police, also provided support.”

The incident remains under investigation by DEEP EnCon Police, according to Fowler.
