Man Charged In Shooting In Stratford: Police

Two victims reported that someone fired shots at their vehicle in Stratford, according to police.

STRATFORD, CT — A Stratford man was arrested Friday in connection with a shooting that happened in town in late December, according to police.

Connecticut State Police notified Stratford Police around 1 a.m. on Dec. 30 that two victims went to Troop G in Bridgeport to report a shooting that happened in Stratford, according to Capt. Jerry Pinto.

The driver of a white Hyundai Sonata had fired shots at the victims’ vehicle in the area of Dewey Street in Stratford, according to Pinto.

Pinto said patrol officers found a spent .45 caliber shell casing in the 100 block of Dewey Street, and an investigation led police to a home in the 400 block of Sedgewick Avenue, where the white Hyundai Sonata was found.

The Hyundai was towed to the Stratford Police Department along with the vehicle that the two victims were driving at the time of the shooting, according to Pinto.

Pinto said detectives executed search warrants on Jan. 3 on both vehicles and seized evidence related to the Dec. 30 shooting on Dewey Street. Another search warrant was executed on Jan. 9 at the home on Sedgewick Avenue, evidence was again seized in connection with the shooting, according to Pinto.

Detectives executed multiple search warrants in January on electronic devices that were seized on Jan. 9, and police also learned that the .45 caliber shell casing recovered from the Dewey Street shooting incident was a match to a Glock .45 caliber firearm recovered during a motor vehicle stop in Bridgeport on Jan. 12, according to Pinto.

An arrest warrant was obtained for 26-year-old Devon Dotson, of Sedgewick Avenue in Stratford, in connection with the shooting on Dewey Street, according to Pinto.

Pinto said Dotson was taken into custody on Jan. 24 in the area of Hope Street in Stamford.

Dotson was arrested and charged with criminal attempt at first-degree assault, first-degree reckless endangerment, carrying a pistol without a permit, weapon in a motor vehicle and illegal transfer of a firearm. He was held in lieu of a $250,000 bond with a court date of Jan. 27.
