Obituary: Joseph Francis Walsh, 87, formerly of Stratford

Joseph, a devoted family man, worked many years as a custodian and for numerous car dealerships.

STRATFORD, CT - (From Cody-White Funeral Home) Joseph Francis Walsh, 87, of Milford, CT, beloved husband of Mary Ann (née Donnelly) Walsh, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, December 12, 2021.

Born on November 1, 1934 in Bridgeport, CT, he was the son of the late John and Julia (née Doherty) Walsh.

Joe, previously a long-time resident of Bridgeport, worked many years for the Diocese of Bridgeport in custodial positions with St. Ambrose Church in Bridgeport, St. Catherine’s Church in Trumbull and Holy Name of Jesus Church in Stratford.

Before that, he was employed for many years by three local auto dealerships.

He was a daily communicant and devout supporter of his parish, Most Precious Blood (St. Mary’s), in Milford.

He also loved dancing the limbo with his granddaughters at family weddings and kept the cleanest car on the block.

In addition to his wife, Joe is survived by his five sons: Mike (Kelli Armstrong); Bill (Tina); Dennis; Joseph (Peggy); and John (Rachel) and six grandchildren: Dan (Ali); Tim (Adrianne); Kelly; Christine; Bridget; and Fiona; and three great-grandchildren: Aidan; Patrick and Cian.

He is also survived by his sister, Jean Demshak, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Catherine Walsh.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, December 20, 2021 at 11 a.m. at Saint Mary Church (Precious Blood Parish), 70 Gulf St., Milford, CT (MEET DIRECTLY AT CHURCH). Interment will follow at Saint Michael Cemetery, 2205 Stratford Ave, Stratford, CT.

Family and friends are invited to gather on Sunday, December 19, 2021 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the CODY-WHITE FUNERAL HOME, 107 Broad St., Milford, CT.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Saint Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN.
