STRATFORD, CT - (From Pistey Funeral Home) Steven Tyler Smith, aka Smitty, was born on June 2, 1993 in Bridgeport Hospital. He was 6 weeks premature. The NICU staff was wonderful and Steven was able to go home on June 12, 1993.

It is with extreme sadness to announce Steven’s unexpected passing on June 8, 2022. His mother, Stephanie Tabak Smith, father Edward Smith, brother Zachary Smith, and sister Abigail Smith are beyond devastated by his sudden passing.

Steven grew up in Stratford and graduated from Stratford High School in 2011. He graduated from Porter and Chester Institute in 2012 with an automotive technician certificate. As a little boy he discovered toy cars and his lifelong fondness for “anything with wheels” continued.

At the age of 11 his dad bought him his first guitar and from there his love for music grew. Steven was a multi-instrumentalist playing guitar, bass, drums and as a vocalist. Smitty started his first band in high school.

Steven has been a unique presence on the local music scene in his own bands, as a guest in others and was a regular participant in All-Star Jam Nights.

Smitty was one of a kind who will be greatly missed by all that knew him.

In addition to his parents, brother and sister, he is survived by his beloved grandmothers Barbara Tabak and Dorothy Crosby, and extended family, friends and bandmates.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 15, 2022 from 4 to 8 pm at Pistey Funeral Home, 2155 Main Street, Stratford. Rev. Steven Voytovich will lead a Russian Orthodox prayer service at 7 pm. Burial will be private.

A memorial tribute music event to be announced at a later date.
